Hi there people.

My wife has a pan with a loose handle, not just any old pan you realise but her favourite pan. The pan is made from stainless steel and silly me says 'I'll fix it'. I managed to get hold of some copper rivets locally (didn't fancy trying to work with S/S anyway - it would be too hard), but I am a bit stuck as to how or what I need to complete the job.

We're not talking about pop-rivets by the way but the old fashioned type that we used in school with a domed head. When I asked in the shop for the tool to make the dome on the end the bloke said "Oh, I wouldn't bother with that, just hammer it over, it'll do". Well it won't do for me, I would like to be able to do the job properly and neatly with a nice dome on both ends of the rivet. The problem is, I don't even know what to look for.

Google rivet and you are presented with page after page of stuff about pop rivets and rivet guns - not what I need.

Can anyone tell me what the tool is called that I should be looking for please?

regards

Brian

You are looking for Riveting Dollys, sorry but the company link (GLR) who I was going to give you is not available (hope they have not gone walkabout)

Model engineering suppliers should have them.

Thanks Chas,

Now at least I know what I'm looking for. There doesn't seem to be much online but we have a small engineers supplers in Rhyl so I might give them a call next week after the holidays.

regards

Brian

Yes you need two, one held in the vice to take the preformed head and the other to hold over the protruding end to hit with the hammer and form the "snap head"

The second hole is used to "set" the joint by making sure the various larers are pushed tightly together but you can just drill a suitable hole in the end of a bit of rod and use that. In which case you can use a snap like these

https://ekpsupplies.com/model-engineeri ... t_185.html

Allow 1.5 to 1.6 x dia of rivit stcking out to form a full head

CHJ, GLR are closing down, the owner is retiring and will just do some of the castings as a side line.

Thanks for the update Jason, I know things were getting a bit fraught with the Break-ins etc. taking a toll on profits, was one of my call-in points when passing for the odd stock replenish and plating kit refills etc.

And always willing to put something in the post to meet the odd ball requirement when needed.

And a one to one communication with the dogs of course.

Thanks jason, not got my fav. links with me and have not been keeping up with events recently.
