Just finished making a wooden rip fence for my dimension saw, as I do a lot of work in solid timber, for which the full-length alu extrusion is not suitable. I can move it forward to the correct position, but then have about 2 1/2 foot of fence protruding in front of the machine, which gets in the way and invites damage.
My shop-made fence fixes to the alu fence to line up with the saw gullets, allowing the necessary clearance after the cut. (sorry, can't post photos - keep getting told 'file size too large').
Why don't manufacturers supply a rip fence as a standard accessory: don't they read HSE guidance? (hammer) I'm sure that most dim. saw owners do a fair bit of ripping solid timber and need the appropriate fence, without having to make their own.
