Hi guys...scratching my head here. In the photo you can see what I'm trying to do....replace some mullions. They are scribed into the horizontal transom.

but when you try to swing the mullion into position, it's going to foul.

The scribe is symmetrical on both sides and so if you try to fit it by tilting front-to-back as it were, you'll still have the same problem.

Any suggestions? The actual mullion will be oak and not painted.

Make it in two pieces then glue the front to the back- join it on the quirk and no one will ever know ;)

I did think about that but then thought how tricky it would be working out the extra width required to compensate for the 'lost' wood due to the saw kerf such that when you then went to join them up the scribes butted up perfectly.
