Removing plane blade rust

I have just got a record 044 plough plane and a record no.4 plane. Many of the blades are rusted lighly on the plough plane and the no.4 has minor rust on the sole and sides of the plane. Which is the best and safest way to remove it?

Around 320-600 grit SiC paper, on a block to avoid messing the corners.
