Hi everyone

I am trying to removing some heavily baked in linseed oil from a willow cricket bat that I purchased. Unfortunately the previous owner had no respect for the wood and really heaped on the linseed oil! As a result there is big swirls of oil all over it.

I will be eventually sanding down the bat to get a nice smooth finish on it, but do you have any suggestions on how to remove the excess linseed?

You expertise is greatly appreciated

A cabinet scraper will remove it easily enough. They are only a couple of pound-a very useful tool.
Hope this helps

Or you could go cheaper still and use broken glass, which makes a very effective scraper without the trouble of learning to sharpen it. Just don't cut yourself...

Now we all know how Alf saves so much money on his shaving.
He uses broken glass instead of razor blades.

I can't believe how you could have been a member of this forum since January 2004 and posted a comment like that. Here's a tin helmet
