I'm putting my workshop back together and trying to get a saw up and running, it wont start without giving the blade a spin first, I tried putting on a new start capacitor but it made no difference, it only runs for as long as I hold the start button in and then at about half speed and very little torque.
I suspect it has had the wrong starter switch fitted as it is under rated for the 1700 watt motor.
I saw an earlier post on here that showed identical wiring to the motor connection block apart from the supply wires from the switch mine only has a live, neutral and earth whereas the one on the photo had another which was white or possibly grey.
Does anyone have any knowledge of how to connect this up please, I'm guessing the problem might just be the starter switch but which one do I need to get.

Some pictures below which may help

It would appear to me that the red wire in the terminal box is not connected to anything and looking at the motor, the red wire would appear to possibly be the start winding. If you're not sure what you're doing as far as what connects to where, you might be better to get a qualified electrician to take a look and sort it out. OTOH, if you're comfortable with 230V electricity, then draw yourself a diagram of what you've currently got and compare that to a diagram of a similar motor with capacitor start.

Thanks Gordon, I've been looking at a number of diagrams online but without seeing anything that was a glove fit to what I've got.
That said I only removed the rear bearing and housing to check to see if there was an issue with a centrifugal switch, which I didn't find, but I think I can hear closing when I release the start button.
I've got an electrician coming to take a look tomorrow so hopefully he'll sort out the issues, I've one quite a bit of electrical work in the past but mainly on installing three phase machines, I think part of the problem here is that someone has previously 'had a go' and installed the wrong start button switch that hasn't got a coil, doesn't latch on and according to contactor is rated at only 6amps.
