I had a war finish No 4 - it was one of the best finished planes I had, The best finished I've ever seen was a Canadian Stanley, and the worst by a mile was an old Marples that I still have - I trued the sole with a flap disc and a sanding disc on my lathe, not only was it hollow, it was winding.
