Could someone please help I am in the process of buying a new Record Maxi-1 lathe. The floor in my shed is wooden and I need to know what size of concrete bases I need to put down before installing my new lathe David

David,
First of all, welcome to the forum - I am sure you will find lots of helpful advice here.
Regarding the floor for your lathe - could you call Record and ask their recommendations?
Having said that, someone will be along soon with experience of that particular lathe.
Greg

Hi

Are you asking about a base for your lathe or shed?

A firm base for the lathe is required but this does not necessarily equate to a concrete one.

Hi David and welcome !

I have had a Maxi 1 lathe for over 4 years now and I am telling you that you will love it.

My shed has a 3/4" T&G wooden floor and before I put anything in I reinforced the whole floor by covering it with 3/4" ASB board.

I have had no problems with the floor or stability of the lathe whatsoever and I can tell you that I have turned some massive lumps of wood on it.

Enjoy

Vic

Thanks Vic, Spindle and Greg for ideas and welcome

I have decided to reinforce the floor as Vic suggested instead of putting in concrete bases for lathe.

If you feel the need also make sure that where the legs meet the floor try and get them directly over the bearers if not try and put one or two extra in below the floor
