Hi all
i've recently come into the possession of a few hand tools from my mother in law that used to belong to her father. One of them is a Record 080 plane/scraper. I've not seen one of these before and I'm not sure how to use it - it certainly looks useful. Can anyone point me in right direction? Do i push it or pull it? How do I sharpen it - blade/iron won't fit in the eclipse honing guide I also acquired.
Thanks
Stewart

Some info on the Stanley, which is just the same. As long as you're moving it in the right direction, so the blade it tilted forwards, you can push or pull it as you like, but it works better pushed. Not a bad PDF here. Look for "Life After Sandpaper" in the Sharpening section.

Cheers, Alf

Thanks very much - plenty of information to keep me occupied at these sites.

Thanks, Pete - a very helpful link. I see I'll have to get myself some files and a burnisher.
