I've just bought an old one of these. It works fine but it's missing the little locking screw that holds it set at a given curve. I don't anticipate that missing this screw will be a problem in use.

- Am I wrong to think I'll be OK without one?
- Any suggestions on how to procure a replacement (I don't know what kind of thread it is or how to measure that)?

Cheers, W2S

PS if I wanted to re-enamel it, any suggestions on where to get a nice "Record blue" of the right stuff?

I have the Stanley equivalent and on the few occasions I've used it I did lock up the setting, but it's probably not essential.
I could measure mine but it's probably not the same. Best bet is to find something that fits - maybe a thumb screw from another tool - and measure that.

As for paint, if you really want to bother you can take your pick - I have Record tools of different ages of different shades from midnight blue to Cambridge blue.

Mine is an 020, not the later 020C. The locking screw on mine is 3/16" dia. 24tpi, which appears to be a standard BSW thread.

The length of the shank isn't a rounded imperial length, but about 1/32" under 5/8" long (= 15mm) - threaded almost to the head. The head is 1/4" long and 3/8" dia. and both slotted and knurled.

HTH.

Cheers, Vann.
