It's time to replace my Jig Saw after many years of good service. I'm looking for something that can do everything from Kitchen work tops to thin hard wood. Accuracy, ease of changing the blade are the main criteria for me. Not worried about it being cordless.

Recommendations would be appreciated, there seems to be an awful lot to choose from these days.

Many Thanks

Mafell P1CC

Oh wait, what's your budget?

I saw a Mafell being demonstrated at Harrogate some machine but expensive

Mine is in a safe.

I have a decent watch collection that I leave in the Mafell box in the workshop, as a decoy you know, so they don't get the jigsaw.

Just had a look at the Mafell on line, looks great. It's within budget if it's the right tool. Does it come with a tilting base or do you have to buy it separately, it's not clear to me.

I think D&M tools have it in a special price package deal (£474.95) at the min with the tilting base, guide rail and systainer style carry case.

Separate. Speak with Miles Tools or someone else and see if they'll do you a deal.

If it's within budget, honestly, don't look elsewhere. There isn't a better jigsaw available.

Or what MB said.

Thanks everyone. The eBay deal looks the best, comes with a sustainer and a Germany style plug which will be resolved within 2 mins will!

If you're at that end of the market you should at least have a look at the Carvex. Peter Parfitt has a very thorough video review on Youtube. I'm very happy with mine, though I can never be bothered with swapping over the different bases.

I was waiting for this.

The P1CC is the best jigsaw you can buy. I have had a Carvex, and I don't care what Peter says, they are not in the same league as the Mafell. Don't get any buyers remorse, stick with the P1CC.

I've got a carvex and in all honesty I can't recommend it. Had problems with the blade ejection system, the base keeps falling off and there's no tilting base for it. Have got my eye on the mafell also, it does look like the mutts nuts

If it was my money,I'd buy a Bosch GST 160 BCE.Lots of power, quick change blade and a large chunk of money left in my pocket.I haven't used the current generation Mafell but have a fair bit of time with an earlier version and believe the Bosch would match it.

I can drag it out of the safe if you want to try it sometime Woodmonkey.

I'm a carvex user myself and whilst it is a better device comparative to the usual suspects I think it is a little over hyped myself.

Most people on the Festool User Group generally prefer the Mafell on a whole (IMO) so that has to say something for it.

I suspect with the exception of Mafell and Festool (of which I know nothing) the difficulty recommending stuff is that the quality of Bosch, Makita, DeWalt etc. is inconsistent - every few years they seem to have ups and downs. As fast as someone says my such and such is brilliant, someone else who's got one a few years older or newer will say don't touch one of them with a bargepole. My Bosch is brilliant, it is as accurate as when it was new (I do have to hammer the base plate flat occasionally), I've cut 10s of tons of demolition timber for firewood amongst other things, and it doesn't miss a beat. It's 18 years old, so no point in recommending it. :D

You are right phil.p I had a Bosch for years and years, loved it to bits, :) I gave it to my apprentice when I got the newest model and it was Tosh. :x

+1 for the Mafell P1CC, and I recently installed the Festool "plug-it" connector to have the best of both worlds.
It looks a bit odd but works like a charm !

I've not tried the Mafell (although I do have a Mafell BJ and that is superb) but I have a Bosch and I wouldn't swap it for a Carvex. I've used two different models, and whilst I'm generally a Festool fan, neither the barrel-body nor D-handle models were as easy to use as my Bosch.
