Recomendations for Piano Wire

I am hoping, over the cold spell, to muck around with some wooden mechanical models. For these I will have to make some springs of piano wire. There are any number of possible suppliers of this, does anyone have experience of a particular supplier?

Can you use welding wire? I often make small springs with it. The 0.8mm stuff is pretty strong, and has the advantage of being copper coated, so it doesn't rust very easily.

Eric, I hadn't considered welding wire, I must track down a local sample. The 0.8mm guide is useful as I had only an idea of diameter required.

Wizard, that is likely to be where I end up. I was looking for a selected 'good' supplier.

twothumbs, that was my source some twenty-odd years ago. Sadly the nearest model shop, to me, is effectively out of range. I will look for 'Web Presence'.

Cracking stuff 'bernienufc', and they have a shop within striking distance. I can go pick stiffness/diameter by feel.
