My builder housemate has done it again :) He's brought home approximately 20 lengths of cedar T & G from an old large dormer - most are 7ft long and 15mm thick.

They need planing both sides as they have paint and such on, but my main question is I would like to use them to make a few blanket / toy boxes for my nephews, so would 10mm thick be enough meat so they last many years?

I've no experience of these sort of boxes or cedar and it's properties, so any advice is appreciated.

I would imagine with an interior frame it will be fine (assuming your not making something huge), or even use them as the infill in a frame and panel built box.

I don't have the skill yet to make a frame and panel box, so I was thinking simple dovetailed sides (or box joints if my practice dovetails are poor), but I think additional bracing in the corners and bottom is a good suggestion. Size wise I was just thinking sort of 2' 6" wide by whatever looks right for the rest :)
