Can anyone advise me on the depth of rebate for the meeting stiles on painted french doors.

If the stiles are 44mm thick then each rebate should be 22mm deep but as these are to be painted what allowance should I add for the paint. I was thinking of 2mm for paint (23mm deep for each rebate) but I don't want them too loose or tight. Any suggestions

They will be exterior doors and so will have the usual primer, 2 undercoats and ! gloss coat.

Thanks

I would cut the rebates 22mm because the paint on the sides of the door will make up for the paint in the rebates.

2mm is too big an allowance for paint IMO. I would cut the rebate just a fraction strong of 22mm, or bang on.

2 m/m is to much for paint each coat of paint is in tho's of an inch you would have to fit draught excluders :D
