Greetings, and a fulfilling '03 to all,
I have just spent a few days refurbishing an old wood plane. The Sheffield steel blade is now 'scarry' sharp and it seems to work perfectly even with a cracked base along the side. I've spent a few hours doing a search on the web for the Rapier company and found nothing. The plane is a Rapier 400, with "Gateshead, England" in raised letters, on the plane but there aren't any patent numbers at all. I thought maybe an inquiry to a UK forum might yield more info. Can you tell me a little about the company, or the tool itself? The only thing I have is that they built tools similar to Record, but not quite as good.
Thanks ahead of time,
Ray

Hi Welcome to the forums.

I got this from Jesters Website (http://www.geocities.com/jester27uk) -

A few words about Rapier. You may well have found this page while searching for information on this make of plane, so here's all I know: "Rapier" is the trade name of the Anglo-Scottish Tool Company Ltd of Gateshead, England. They made metal planes, like the plough to the left and also bench planes, in the 1950s & 1960s. .

Hope this helps and that Jester doesn't mind....[/code]
