Here is the finished butterfly/scallop bowl on its stand. There aren't two of them I'm afraid as the second one cracked on the join while it was being turned. I'm not sure about the solid fronted stand. I may cut it out so it loooks like a bridge. What do you think?

Incredible!

How are the scallops done?

I used an arbortech mini carver to trench out the hollows, then some dremel tools to round off the edges, Then a metabo random rotary sander with a foam head to sand it down. The back is also scalloped to match the front.

best Regards

Steve

Steve , that is a lovely bit of work , what makes it more special is having seen it in the rough first .
You certainly got the best out of it .
Regarding the base I think it makes it more naturel as it is . =D> =D>

Looks Fab Steve - enjoyed seeing your prgress on this,

Does remind me a little of Moose Antlers !!!

Beautiful piece of work. I wish I was as skilled as you.

I would make the stand look a bit more rustic as the sharp edge on the base is in contrast to the flowing curves of the shell.

But nevertheless its a stunning piece.

On thinking about the stand , I dont think butterflys go looking for special places to land , so I would leave it alone .
Just my euros worth .

Nice one Steve!
Look forward to seeing it in club tomorrow.
