I am sure that one of you wise men will be able to point me in the right direction with a problem with my grinder.
Went to start it today and ... nothing; just a low hum. Gave the wheels a quick spin and they started to slowly go round and ( eventually ) started to pick up speed. When I turn it on I can see the wheel do a quick jerk but don't turn. The wheels are quite free and will turn and spin quite freely by hand, so I am presuming that this is an electronic problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Is this a repairable fault or is it a terminal job? Its only a cheap job and only used for the occasional regrinding job. Please bear in mind that I am not knowledgeable about electronics, so please go easy with me. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the start capacitor is faulty, you need to find it and it should say the value and voltage on it, Maplins or Ebay for a replacement.
