Nearly all the things I make have a wax polish finish and for this I use a drill brush in my drill press, it is round about 6 inches in diameter and does an excellent job. However. I cant polish the inside of some of the letters on my name signs and on average I suppose the internal diameter on some of the letters is about an inch. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.

is it really worth polishing the inside Geoff , i think the dull interior makes the shine stand out and gives it a contrast, but its your call..

Hi Geoff,
I fasten a long rag into my vice (Usually a sleeve from an old shirt)
push one end through the hole and then while holding the rag tight a just move the nameplate up and down a few times quickly.
Cheap and easy solution!

Steve. With some woods the inside of a cut looks considerably paler than the outside and with some of the thins I make looks a bit unsihtly. You are right though, with other woods it is hardly noticeable so I don't bother and the customer certainly does not know any different.

Thanks for the tip Phil. so simple and I shoiuld have thought of that.

Geoff.

I note from your original post that you do a lot of polishing using your drill press.

Just a thought, maybe worth looking out for when (Lidl) have their bench grinders on offer, I think they are about £20.00 or so, may be less, I have forgotten what I paid. Discard the grinding wheels and fit polishing mops in there place.
A very cost effective bench polisher, compared to the price of dedicated polishers, the motors are induction, so will last for ever providing you don’t overload them.

I have two, one with polishing mops, the other I made an adaptor and fitted sanding drums.
Or you could maybe fit your polishing brush :?: .

They work a treat.

Take care.

Many thanks Chris. I will grab one when they are available. I may be wrong but do Axminster do the mandrils to take the polishing mops or is there another way of fitting the mops/

Geoff.

Yes I am sure that Axminster, do supply (I think they are called pigtails) in both right and left hand thread, with a pigtail, it is a quick way to change mops, but I just have the mops fitted to the shafts of the unit by the same method that held the original grinding wheels.

The shafts are a standard 12mm, which most mops will fit over, with a bit of persuasion .
When I say the shafts are standard 12mm, bear in mind that one is a left hand thread. Necessary to stay tight against the motor rotation.

Regards.
