I am faced with installing a Geburit ( German) concealed cistern on Monday because my plumber has broken a leg in two places. Its in a house restoration that is to a tight timescale and high spec and because of my lack of plumber an unaffordable delay looks likely. I do seem to get into these scrapes.

The Geburit unit is a Kappa U200 cistern. Does anyone have any detailed fitting instructions for the gubbins inside the cistern. I have sort of figured it out but want to assure myself that I really have.

Issue 1. There is an internal stainless braided hose which connects to the inlet "adjustable inward flow valve"...does this valve need a sealing ring/rubber gasket ?

Issue 2 The adjustable inward flow valve has a 15mm male screw thread...can I just connect to cold supply via a tap fitting. ?

Issue 3 Overflow waste seems to be internal to the toilet bowl...is that so.?

Issue 4 Do these Geburit units work well and reliably.?

have you checked out the Geberit (not Geburit) website as they have a wealth of installation documents and videos. Many manufacturers share common parts between their products and so even if your system isn;t listed, there might be something that helps http://www.geberit.co.uk/en_uk/target_g ... nter_3.jsp

Issue 3 ...most modern cisterns overflow into the toilet pan.

Sounds a lot like my grohe one

The braided hose should have rubber washers fitted.

The tap should have a 1\2" bsp? Male thread which a standard tap connector fits on.

The overflow is internal

My grohe one is fine. You can do any maintenance through the push button cover

The only niggle I had was twisting the hose correctly so that it didn't fowl the mechanism

Hope this helps

Thanks guys for the thought and effort of replying.

RogerS The Geburit site is a minefield of undisclosed info. It is diagram based and there are NO diagrams showing how to connect the inward flow valve to the cistern cold water supply. Its a good site as far as it goes but they are trying to sell courses to plumbers not help people like me.

Thanks for the offer it's very generous and I may need to tajke you up on that if I fail on Monday.

Ummmm.? There are no rubber washers included in the install kit just a large plastic knob on the inside. My problems about this are how do I seal the opening to prevent water escaping, how do I secure the inward supply to the cistern wall so it does not waggle about. Possibly the install kit is telling me that no rubber seal is needed.

I've decided to proceed, with caution, and will gather materials to provide a rubber seal, a locking nut and some way to position the input valve before going ahead. That is treat it as an adventure, take my time and see how it goes....

is that the last gasp of my professionalism there I wonder.

I fitted a Grohe unit recently found the instructions poor but eventually sussed everything out.I just screwed a jjspeedfit elbow to mine and an isolation valve which if need be I can access from the top in my case.Im pretty sure there was rubber seal on connection braided pipe which came with mine.

Alan, you have discovered the Rules of Bathroom Fittings..

Rule 1...fittings never come with all the right bits

Rule 2 ...the bit that you are missing was taken from YOUR kit to sort out another customer

Rule 3 ...the bathroom supplier's staff will have done nothing to remedy Rule 1 or Rule 2

Looking at this Geburit unit tonight ( yes I brought it home to have a fiddle with ) I can see several areas where it lacks 90% of the information needed. I'm going to call the Uk operation on monday and have a moan and seek advice.

The instructions are poor, full of diagrams about the construction aspects of how to fit the frame to the wall/building/floor but there is Bu***r all about the needed bits and assembly from a plumbing perspective.

The construction is OK but the installation guide is crap. My plumber tells me he went on a very expensive course for 3 days to learn how to do the plumbing part of the install. Thats just rediculous.

The Geburit bits I am concerned over SHOULD already be assembled and not left bouncing around in the install kit.

Quality: 8/10
Pre-assembly 3/10
Simplicity 6/10
Fiddle and cock up factor 5/10
Instructions 4/10
