Hi,

Can anyone recommend a decent brand of plug cutter that will do a decent job in oak please? They are for concealing screws so I guess a 9 - 12 mm would be the best size. I see screwfix do a Trend make - does anyone use these?

As if you didn't know the silverline ones I had sitting in the bottom of the drawer just burned the wood #-o

I use a set from disston, very good, and also a makita set, I would think Trend would be good too as most of their stuff is.
They all can blunt easily so keep sharp(that's why I have 2 sets) and avoid burning as much as possible mainly by just cutting steadily and avoid getting hot.
Otherwise, when the plug is finished it is quite possible to see the burn line where the plug fits inside the sink hole spoiling the finish, especially in lighter, white oak, Have a try and see for yourself.
It's another part of the process of finishing and gently does it.
Regards Rodders

I have the trend countersink cutter and plug and they work really well. I am however looking for a top set and there isnt much out there. rutlands do a set which is about £200+ i know i am a proffesional but even that seems steep. Try to cut all holes and plugs on a pillar, if you go at any kind of angle it will not go in straight and the plug wont fit correctly.
