Hi all i am new to this forum so forgive me if there is already a thread covering this somewhere.
I need to source some good plans for english period furniture. At the moment in particular wardrobes but later fourposter beds, chests blanket boxes etc.Does any one know a good source for these? I have seen the discs advertised on ebay and the like and i am a bit sceptical as i have in the past bought car manuals from such people and found them poorquality or difficult to use.
I plan to work in oak and pine for these covering periods from elizabethan to victorian.
Or if any one knows of a book covering such items.

Hi Martyn, welcome to the forum
I don't know of a good source for plans, but have you considered doing your own designs?
I know you can buy measured drawings from varuious sources, which would give you the dimensions, then all you need to do is to work out a means of construction that suits your techniques, tools, equipment and workshop

Hi there

I'm fairly new to this place also..... but the people here are very helpful and have a mountain range of knowledge that they are happy to share (thankfully) ...... there are numerous web site where you can get plan for free .... see the links section of this web site ........ you may not get the exact one's you want but it should give you plenty of ideas

I got a few ideas this way then designed my first project (still working on it) ....

Hi Martyn

Welcome to the forum.

You could try "Making Classic English Furniture" by Paul Richardson. ISBN 1-86108-153-7.

The projects are: -

eighteen-century mule chest
late-Georgian dressing table
Regency sofa table
William IV extending table
mid-Georgian library bookcase

If you're near Nottingham you can borrow the book.

Cheers
Neil
