Planer Thicknesser

Could anyone recommend a entry level (read budget) planer thicknesser?

I recently purchased and sent back an Excel which looked to be a generic machine sold under many names (Zipper/Clarke etc etc) as the machine wasn't accurate at all.

I've been watching and bidding on a few different ones, that look to be better machines on ebay but since you take a chance on quality the machine seem to selling for a fair amount of money.

So budget £500ish new or 2nd hand.

There's a blue Record Power RSPT260 on ebay now with just a few hours to go. Don't know what the "RS" stands for, mine is just a green RP260 and is far better than the type you (and I) had previously. Record power RSPT260 Planer Thicknesses 240V Stand Alone On Lockable Wheels | eBay

Seen a Metabo HC260 any idea if it’s the same machine as the record?

I think the Metabo is from the same clone factory and most reports I've read are good for the price of the machine.
