Planer problem

I have just purchased an old Wadkin planer and I cant get the infeed table to rise so that it is level with the planer blades. It will only rise to about 3mm short of being level. The infeed table will drop ok and I raise it again but it just won't go back level. Any ideas please.
Does anyone know of a web site which explains in detail on how to set up and use a planer. Thanks David
