I bought Altheo's Dewalt P/T which looks great but (so far unused). As I was giving it a bit of dust off, I noticed the planer beds are still "rough" from the milling process of levelling. There's a definite texture to the beds.

I'm curious if they are supposed to be like this, or would they benefit any from a touchup, and if so how might I go about it? Have people doing restorations had success treating old planer beds, or should I leave well alone?

Some beds are textured and yet the crests are flat deliberately to reduce friction.

hmm - to be honest I hadn't actually tried pushing anything over it - could be this gives less surface area for friction, a clever idea if that's what it is.
