Are there 'better made' blades for planer/thicknessers, rather than the manufacturers blades. Just thinking bandsaws = Tuffsaw baldes top quality, does a similar value link to certain planer/thicknesser blade makers?

Disposable, self setting ones if you can get an adaptor to take them for your machine. Cutting solutions used to sell a system. Not sure of they still do.

Got mine from Appleby Woodturnings
The ones I got from them for my Kity 636 were terrible quality. Ones from Axi were far better.

It depends what wood you will be machining. If it is all softwood or all hardwood the best blade for the job will differ

OK PAC ......................., lets say all hardwood. Is there a dominant BEST?

You need to speak to the experts like Appleby. They will tell you. I have in the past rung them and told them what I was doing they will tell you which steel is best
