hi gents just a little project i decided to do,

ive had this little razee handled plane for some time and ive allways like it for its shape and its well fitted brass sole. and the idea of using it for its intended purpose,

originally i was only going to insert a strike button then this idea popped to mind and i have to say i very happy with it, its practical and improves the tools. hope you like it.

needles to say what i did :)

i intend to do the same for another woodie as its rather effective so ill do it to my scrub plane.

TT

I suppose what you gain in a knob, you lose in retraction ability. 'though if you're not trying for shavings you can read through, it's good to have something to hold on to during donkey work.

was just a bit of fun really, those shaving i did where very thick i know, i could get thin shaving but not as thin i could read through, for fine finishing i would go to my no6.

saying that i just reset my cut and took a very fine shaving that would be acceptable to a nice finish but over all its not a great user sadly.

sorry i dont understand the retraction bit can you elaborate please,
thanks

Fine tuning by lightly striking the strike button (or that area on the top front of the plane) to retract the iron when the shaving is too heavy.

I practice fine setting woodies every now and then and I'm getting there (slowly) :)

i see what you mean, i have just ben using it as a strike button as well as a knob, the main benefit of this upgrade (if it can be called one) is where the plane is super light i can now apply a good amount of pressure ext,

it can be tedious when setting your chosen cut with woodies and some infills like mine but its an easy thing to learn/master. its not so much of a problem with my razee scrub plane :)

what do you think of the idea richard? do you think its got merit
thanks

Knobs ? I'm in favour of them. :)

Of course the way you are doing it, dowel plugged in, you could change for a strike button if you wanted to. Versatile things planes.

thanks Richard,
i might even put a strike button on the toe but my multi button works so thats good enough for me.

i want to make a plane some day in the future
