Struggling to hold your dinky little Record 043? Is it too hard to find in amongst the shavings on your bench?

You could always follow the lead set by this example which just finished on eBay, having failed to attract a bidder:

And I couldn't help noticing that the same seller had a shoulder plane with a big elbow sticking out of it in some sort of anatomical mash-up: (which did sell)

Anyone else losing their grip on reality?

I wonder if that shoulder plane handle/wedge was made from a fork .... I should think that would be the only way to make it strong enough.

Hi,

I think the user was an arthritis sufferer and added the handles so he could carrying on woodworking.

I saw those atrocities this week trawling through FleaBay and was going to post the same thing but I felt too sick!

They are absolutely awful! #-o

Well, they do look odd, but I think Pete is probably right, so perhaps we should be saluting some ingenious problem solving.

I think you're right Pete, as I've made a few adjustments to my tools in order to have them fit my hands (Rheumatoid Arthritis sufferer). Nuts to fashion if tool adjustments/adaptations can keep you working. At the end of the day, tools are made to be used.

Me too (Rheumatoid and osteo- for 25 years now :-( ), but I can't imagine those as being anything other than quite painful to use, never mind on the eyes!

The best 'adaptation' I have, by far, are three pairs of left-handed scissors. Not only are they comfortable, they put the rest of the family off pinching them!

I've got a left-handed hammer somewhere, but I keep putting it down and forgetting where it is...
