Hello gents. I’ve just had an email from my son. He’s very keen on photography and wants to know can I make him some frames for putting the photos on the wall. Well the woodwork is the easy part but he’s asking for glass. Now from a safety point of view I don’t like messing with glass but what’s the best alternative. I was thinking something like 2mm plastic. Am I on the right track? Also what’s the best tools for cutting it.
Thanks

I would recommend acrylic as it is stronger and optically more transparent than glass

I tend to buy cheap frames with either glass or acrylic (glass for less than A4 size, acrylic for bigger) and bin the cheap frame (I consider it as packaging). It generally works out significantly cheaper and less likely to be scratched than buying plastic sheets.

The Range’s Easy frames are a good start:

Does acrylic not give a colour shift? If he's a photographer he isnt going to like that.

if you want no colour shifts you need specialist glass that blocks out UV light.

I know the difference looking through perspex and then glass aquariums is massive. You can tell its perspex every single time.
