Why don't firms want to sell what the customer wants any more?

I'm rehanging an existing door so that it clears its architrave – for which I need 3 No: 4” Brass Parliament hinges.

It’s normal to hang heavy doors on three hinges. For the life of me, I can’t find any suppliers who will sell what is a heavy duty hinge in anything other than pairs.

Does anybody on the forum know where I can get 3 hinges, instead of 2 pairs, chucking one out?

Sorry I can't help, but can you buy 3 pairs and sell on the rest? Not ideal I know.

Have a look on Cookson hardwares website, they have them listed to purchase as singles.

Where abouts in Wales are you? There's an ironmongers in Shrewsbury called E. B. Smith whom sell anything in any amount specialising in door and window furniture. Not always the cheapest but never over the top for price, the only issue is to the best of my knowledge they don't sell mail order.

Do you require brass or chromed? I may have some left over from a job that I can send you.

They need to be brass. the existing hinges are 102 x 70 butt, and the new ones only need to clear a 20mm architrave. The fully open dimension from the wall is not critical at all.

It goes without saying that I'm happy to pay the going retail.

Bad news I'm afraid, I have about a dozen pairs of parliament hinges , but they are all chromed, even the ones in boxes marked solid brass! If you can get away with chrome I will send you whatever you require. I don't want anything for them thanks. I doubt anyone would even notice the colour of the hinges, we tend to look at doors and not what they are hung on. You could hang your doors on the chrome ones until you find some brass at the right price. Let me know and I'll pop these in the post for you.

Many thanks for the reply and for looking at the hinges.

Sadly the hinges are in full view when the door is fully open and everything else in the place is brass. I really don't have any choice about the finish.

I was a great thought though and there's money in the bank if you need anything from wild Wales.
