What type of paints do you use and where do you get them from for painting wood?

Do you use acrylic or water based?

Thanks
Paul

Water based in the colour that the Boss (tm) wants. She likes painted stuff. We just tend to go to a DIY shed and pick out a suitable colour.

How long's a piece of string? - the question's a bit vague. What sort of wood? Why do you wish to paint it? Indoors or outdoors? What do you want it to look like? Acrylic and water based are much the same, surely?

I am a dulux man, oil base for outside, silver primer for oily and hardwoods and stopping blue, red and green type pigments burning through when changing to a lighter finish, and sealing tar or oil type contamination.
Dulux Acrylic primer/undercoat for interiors, getting old paintwork flatter looking after rubbing down, 2 full coats and a gloss coat will re-generate most old and tired skirting etc.
Consistant mixing scheme to any paint with a B.S. number like magnolia etc from any DIY or merchant outlet, normally cheap paints and brushes gets you a cheap looking job!
Always be vigilant, watching out for the dreaded old lead painted finish!
I personally have never liked any water based glosswork, takes too long to dry and far too delicate in the finish, much the same as that used in the motor trade. HTH Regards Rodders

Thanks for the advise everyone.

I'm painting small craft figures on softwood. Can you use a standard emulsion like Dulux or do you use a acrylic paint like

Emulsion paint is not designed for wood, bare or not and it won't do the same job as acrylic.
I would suggest that you do some research and check with other craft workers/painters, have you tried on u tube?
