Painting wicker furniture

Hi everyone, Does anybody have any tips for spraying a wicker chair ?.
I intend to use water based white eggshell through an hvlp system, but I'm not sure what I should do for preparation. The chair is not new but is fairly clean and I guess that I should at least degrease it, but how?, can wicker be washed without any ill effect ?.

I've washed-down wickerwork in the past using decorator's sugar soap. It does take a while to dry, though and it can get a bit niffy. Enjoy the spraying, my one and only experience of spraying was a rather messy affair with as much paint seemingly going through the wickerwork as onto them!
