Hi all

I know this is my first post so sorry its a question. I am making a flag display case for my sons school which will be outdoor and exposed all year round so my question is which finsh would be best ?

bearing in mind 1/ it will need to be low maintenance
2/ gloss or mat not really important which
3/ wood is chestnut (because it was donated free)

any ideas welcome thanks in advance .

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Are you looking for a clear or coloured finish, bearing in mind the coloured finishes last far longer?
If you do need a clear one the Osmo UV protection oil satin/matt is the way to go it will last about 18 months before you'll need to reapply another thin coat. However if you after a coloured finish the Butinox 1 would be our choice which will last about 5 years.

Hope this helps, but please come back with any other questions.

Hi,

I believe that chestnut is used for cladding because it is durable without further finishing. You may have been fortunate and landed some zero maintenance free wood!

Hi guys
thanks for the replys i think i would like to put on a finish even if chestnut is good outdoors so will look into
getting some osmo

thanks again
