Mending the parish's notice board.
Basically an oak cupboard with perspex in the front, ply on the back with notices pinned to the ply (with difficulty) and the ply has rotted away.
So will put pine matchboard on the back but put a loose notice board inside, so it'll be a notice board in a box.
Would Sundeala board stuck to ply be OK for this loose board?
It'll be protected from the weather but unheated, sometimes over heated with the sun and the glazed doors, just wondering if it'd warp with changing weather etc.

What's wrong with cork?

sundeala is for interior use only, I'd have thought that the changes in humidity and temperature would ruin it fairly quickly. it has to be pre wetted in order for it to find it's natural balance and not expand and it has to be left in the space for 48 hours to acclimatise, all this tells me it's a bad idea to use it outside, even in a box.

Right ho thanks. Just what I wanted to know.

Cork then. Or just softwood perhaps - they had a prob sticking drawing pins into ply but pine should be OK.

not the only one, didn't expect to see it in Wickes that's for sure.
previous owners of our house used it as sound deadening around a floating wooden floor. they had a dog, it peed everywhere, the cork did a grand job of soaking it up. that was a fun day of removing floors, not.

I think the inside pin board will have to be a solid wood board as the construction is like a mini green house and cork etc might be too weak.
So what would be the softest solid wood for a pin-board? Cedar is weather proof but is it soft enough for drawing pins and feeble fingers? I've never had my hands on it.

There's another alternative, a Velcro loop board and a supply of self adhesive hooked pads to stick on the back of each notice. I've seen these used in similar situations.

Or if you do go for a simple softwood board, it might help to use big easy to grip map pins rather than plain drawing pins.

Sundeala is fine if the notice board rain proof. I made this one for a local church many years back and there has been no problem with the Sundeala. Only complaint was a lady who said it was hard to push the pins into it :?

Edit. Ask your supplier as this might have been classed as water resistant as I do vaguely remember having a chat with them about the application.
