The same way he knows the blade was unused, I think.
I expect it was owned by someone who loved sharpening and hated woodwork.

It's like all second-hand electric routers are "used only once" - yeah, on one occasion I cut 200 metres of worktop with it - I've no idea what the previous owners did with it.

Heck, I've got a few I'm in the process of 'finishing off' too.

I intend to sell them one-at-a-time though: it wouldn't do to flood the market, as scarcity always commands the highest price.
