One day, maybe our airports will be like this....

I would like to think they would but extracting the maximum amout of cash per passenger is more important here.

I have just dropped my brother off at Cardiff airport. It costs £1 to 'drop off' outside the terminal! not park mind you. no nipping in for a cuppa, just slow down throw 'em out the car and get going! you can of course stop further from the terminal (about a 100m walk) FOC but talk about extracting the ... pound from the travelling public.

Changi, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai airports were already very impressive some 8 years ago when my (then) job required a fair bit of travel. Then there was Manchester airport to look forward to on the return!

Don't get me started on that hell hole!

£2.80 for two minutes in and out on pick up? Thieving gits! And you're not expecting it either because drop off is free and they don't advertise the fact that pick up is fee paying until you're in the queue to go through the barrier! And there's very little signage to tell people where to go once they've left the arrivals lounge.

I know BHX charge £1 both ways but at least it's advertised in advance of being stuck in the feeder lane so you have a choice.

Yup, London Heathrow ("LHR") mate, known to the travelling public as the only building site in the world with its very own international airport built in!

Compared with Manchester, Gatwick, Stansted, and Birmingham which are pure pleasure - until you've tried Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Zurich, to name but 3 - I'm sticking just to mainland European major city airports which all suffer from the same basic geographic, space, and socio-economic limitations as UK airports do yet all still manage to do it so much better than the UK does.

Slightly off topic but...We stopped at Dubai on the way to Kuala Lumpur a couple of years ago and at that time a couple of us still smoked but of course you are not able to leave the airport. There is one bar in the airport where you are still allowed to smoke. Afflicted travellers had no choice but to use it and that fact was reflected in the price of the beer there. Unbelievable.
