Might be an old patternmakers or wheelwrights vice, It looks like it was intended to hold tapered pieces. Does it tilt like a patternmakers vice? side-side or up down etc?
Interesting vice. I was given a Vono spanner which my sister found in her 1930s house - it was for the knockdown fittings on the beds - All Vono branded
They have an entry in Grace's guide which mentions engineering and foundry work
