Oiling a lacquered floor

I have a lacquered floor. I want to convert it to a more rustic natural floor, so I intend to sand of the lacquer, then brush and scrape it and finally oil it. Is there a problem with oiling a floor once I sand off the lacquer? I hear people saying you should never mix the two.

As long as you're back to bare wood you should be fine. Lacquer, unlike oil, doesn't sink that far into the grain.
If you were to try to do it the other way round you might have problems.
