Having got boiled and choked to death these past few weeks, erecting tents in houses around windows and disappearing under dust dunes in closed corridors I have rashly purchased this; Apparently this is possibly the start of a slippery slope of addiction and likely to leave me penniless

Excellent buy(s) - I hope you'll be very happy together!

I've had my eye on the little Rotex for a while, but my blue Bosch Delta sander shows no sign of dying yet! I've been really impressed with my Mirka for (very nearly) dustless sanding, but I like the idea of the combined small orbital/delta.

I believe there are support groups for the seriously afflicted!

Oh dear, now one of these seems to have turned up in the post, Kev M you've diverted me down a perilous yellow path as well as the perilous lime green path!

Oh yes and the little Rotex really is the bees knees :D

Now that Ross is money well spent, can't comment on the festool kit.
Having used Mirka's air, mains powered and the odd but clever low voltage sanders I speak from experience. Brilliant sander, good choice.

I am rather hoping so, my wallet's told me it's leaving home and not coming back for a long time

As well as avoiding all sorts of choking to death, a couple of clients have said they'd definitely pay extra for dustless sanding so it may start to earn it's keep. I must admit that the Festool is exceptional at minimising dust and I hope the Mirka does too. I also think it's gonna save a lot of pain and grief when doing stuff like walls and door surrounds.

+1. The Mirka is a truly superb bit of kit. Your wallet will forgive you as soon as you've tried it :)

Hee hee hee, had a lot of fun playing with this today, it really is superb. I'm not sure it's quite got the "grunt" of the rotes, but maybe because Abranet only goes to P80 and not the P40 Festool make. I couldn't quite cut through thick and old paint as quick as the Ro 90. Levelling rough sawn oak took a little longer too. I'm wondering if Festool paper will stick on, I've read that Abranet needs a separate interface pad on Festools, so I'm not sure if it's the same the other way round.

Unfortunately the wallet is still hiding under the sofa and refuses to come out. It realises I've been looking at a Mafell circular saw (something about tools in sustainers!!!!).

I know the feeling. I've given up worrying now as resistance is futile :)

I would use sacrificial backing pads on any sander. Better to go through a few if those a year rather than shagging-up the Velcro.

The joy of using a quality piece of kit is still with you long after you have forgotten what you paid for it, whereas the frustration of using something inferior is still there long after the smug feeling of getting a bargain has vanished. !

I'm not in your league with tools, but my MOSFET Bosh random orbital sander pad was completely rubbished when I used Abranet without the interface pad. All of the hooks on the hook and loop pad were scrubbed off after about 10 seconds sanding. A replacement pad was not cheap, and neither are the interface pads. However, I like the Abranet sanding system, the paper lasts forever IMO and again I think that it's about 2 grades rougher than standard paper. This may be because it doesn't blog / the cutting surface remains sharper for longer, but I now have pads up to 400grit which I never used to use on a sander before going onto flour paper etc.
