Hi Nev
I have made my decision. It was tough this month as delicate means different things to different people. To me, the item not only needs to be fine and demonstrate this fine work but also needs to look elegant and light. It is quite possible to make something with 3mm walls that still appears heavy and blocky. My point is that achieving something that is truely delicate is no mean feat! All entrants had a very good go at it though so well done all.
1st - Nev - the closest entry to my above description of delicate. Thin walled with an elegant shape that has a lightness about it. Well done.
2nd - KimG - Taking a different tack, which I always appreciate, Kim has achieved both a thin and elegant form without compromising the apparent strength of the spindle. It would have been easy to end up with something that looked unstable but the balance is good. The flash of colour in the shade is effective too.
3rd - HeatherW - A very good entry. Not quite as elegant as Nev's but you have still managed to achieve that balance between thin, elegant and strength. Good job.
4th - Dennisk - it was very close for 3rd between Dennis and Heather. This is clearly thin and, as he said in his description, fragile! The finish is also excellent. You have done very well to even finish this piece with that hole in. Well done. I just felt that, despite the excellent form it just didn't quite look as light as Heathers so, purely for the fact it fits the brief less well it falls to 4th. Excellent work though!!
5th - Jethro - a very good entry. Again a nice thin lidded bowl which has a lightness about it. The only thing that let's it down slightly is the finial which is too heavy, in my opinion. Otherwise excellent work. Take a look at the work of Cindy Drozda for ideas for finial designs on this type of work. Well done.
6th - Melinda_dd - looks like you have achieved a good finish here but the supporting spindle is too heavy to fit the brief of delicate. It needs to be thinner with more elegant curves. Good effort though.
Thanks to everyone for your entries.
Cheers
Richard
