Hi all, hope you had a good Christmas.

I've got an oak pint pot, built the way of a barrel with oak vertical pieces and two horizontal (leather?) strips holding it all together. (although it's not bowed like a barrel, just bigger at the bottom than the top).

The problem is it leaks, in one place near the bottom. I'd love to be able to use this as it was intended, but can't get the joint to close up and be water tight.

I've tried soaking it in hot water to see if the wood will swell up and seal, but no joy so far.

Can anyone suggest a way that I could seal the join and still be able to use it for drinking out of? I'm not sure if glue will be non-toxic enough for regular use, not to mention it may taint the liquid it holds, but I've no idea what else I can use.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Vic

Pales and mugs etc rely on having quite a high water contect in order to work properly. Old wooden pales used to be soaked for upto a month before the coopered joints would seal. Just soak it in water in a bucket and leave it for a good while and just keep checking.

I've left it in the water anyway. Fingers crossed!

Thanks

I've used Rustins plastic coating with good affect for drinking vessels. Its non toxic and very durable. Don't know if it would work with multiple piece pot though
