So we recently finished a kitchen for a customer and they owed a few hundred for some extra work. During fitting I’d taken interest in a large old coffer/chest which I really liked, the customer offered me it instead of payment so I took it and just wondered if anyone has any idea of it’s value? Was it a good decision or not! It’s larger than it looks in the picture, about 1800 long, 700 deep and 650 tall,can fit all 5 kids in and close the lid! The customer seemed to think it was made around 1650 in Wales. Really lovely looking thing, photos don’t do it justice. Wife hates it, says it definitely a coffin!

They're lovely things. A friend of mine has one in his conservatory, and I'm very jealous. No idea on value, though. Sorry.

I'm no expert either but I think you got a good deal.
Some more photos would be nice but I have seen some at St Fagans (National Museum of Wales) which were made using the brilliant methods shown in the video discussed here:
