I've had a stack of 7 oak blanks in the corner of the workshop since last year

I noticed today that the top one was cracking quite badly, on closer inspection all but one had cracks, so decided to rough them out in order to try and hopefully slow down the checking. Turned all the bottoms first

Then took out the middles...

Well on the way to a timely rescue there, hope you have a smoker handy with all those nice clean shavings.

Yep made a biscuit tin fish smoker last year a la Jamie Oliver, I will need to catch a lot of trout to use up all of these!

Some really nice figuring there too. I need to cut a lot of blanks when (if) I can get the bandsaw working again, Currently still waiting for a handle to lock the table and a bearing for the band guides. My big angle grinder is looking ever more attractive.

Still would love to have a woodcut bowl saver.

today made an apple and started on a pear out of Yew. Went back to using my favourite tool my Crown cryo 1/2" bowl gouge. bit big and clumsy for the job but it just seems to do what I want without any thought from me.

Going to be a nice set of bowls with some interesting figuring going on. They do seem a little elaborate if it was a bag full of shavings you were after.

Is that my coat ?

You sure have been busy now cut some sticks and pile them back up.

This is how I store mine until I can use them, it makes sure there is plenty of air movement around the bowls. I also resealed the outside only

They didn't half make a mess

I have crept into the potting shed for storage

I use cheap pva off the lathe when sealing non roughed blanks but if roughed and still mounted I was thinking of a solution that doesn't require me to take the bowl off the lathe and then make up a mix of pva. Doing it in situ appeals to. The hassle free in me.

If you are just leaving overnight and want to reduce the risk of it splitting then wrap the outer in cling film.

Old newspaper may be cheaper than PVA.
Place the bowl face down on a couple of layers, rap paper over base and fix with a strip of masking tape, cut centre of wrap out of face of bowl.
