Hello all
ive been getting a few Oak blanks and making a few bowls but not sure what its called
i thought it was Spalted Oak but i think im wrong ...Thats the novice coming out in me :?

So can someone tell what this Oak is please #-o

Looks like English Brown Oak, caused by Beefsteak fungus growing on the tree.

The fungus/tannin reaction causes the brown stain.

Totally agree, it can give the most startling results if chosen carefully!

Brown oak, as already pointed out is the effect of infection affecting the tree, Tiger Oak is the result of the infection getting a grip on the tree but not infecting it as far as Brown oak. Or in other words on the way to becoming brown oak.

Thanks ...there is a tool mark going halfway around the rim but with the naked eye you can hardly see it

you can see it more in this photo thanks to the light being on that side

Ok you all say that the wood is Brown Oak

can you tell me what this wood is please?

the guy i brought the wood from said its Brown Oak but it looks totally different from the first pic i posted up

Looks like Elm to me, in the hand it might suggest brown Ash, but elm would be my first guess.
