Hi all,

Got my Record Power BS12 yesterday.

Set up tension no probs but when I try to set upper guides I find the blade way too far to the right when viewed from front. This means that I can adjust the right hand guide no problem, but the left had guide, even when fully tightened leaves a gap of about 3 mm. The machine appears to cut OK with the supplied blade...awaiting Tuff saw blade in post. The blade does not rub anywhere and spinning the wheel by hand is silent, and the blade sits exactly in the middle of the insert. Is there something I am missing ?

Regards

Is there a locking screw that holds the whole guide assembly in place ??? by undoing this the guide holder should be able to move left or right to get it more central then you can re-set your guides once locked in place.

Yes Grayo, there is a screw but it only offers a pivot action. It seems to need laterally moved !

Regards

Right just had a look at mine. On the back of the guide holder there should be a hex screw on the back of each guide slacken off this hex screw and you should be able the slide the guide in or out. If I were you I would slacken each guide off to the max undo the hex screw then push the guide towards the blade pull back a little tighten the hex screw then re-set the guides.

I have had a go at these screws but they only offer front to back movement. My prob is that the left guide is fully tightened and the right one only half tightened. Is this normal ?

Also the space down the front of the blade cover, the one that slides up and down......should the blade be in the middle of the gap as I cannot see my blade unless i look from an angle through this gap.

Maybe I am being too fussy ? #-o

Thanks for your help.

Hi, Yes the blade should be in the middle. But you should be able to move the guides in and out by releasing the locking hex screw on the back of them. I'll get a picture and show you what mine are like.

Here is some pics Grayo. (I hope)

Note guide screws and blade position.

It looks like the drop down/wind down guard is in the wrong place. Did you assemble that or was it already assembled when it arrived ???

Ready assembled.

Sorry been so long waiting for emailed pictures to arrive from my iphone.

Anyway here's my set up I think it's different to yours but I can adjust my guides in and out by undoing both hex screws on the back of the guide.

Have a look to see if there is any adjustment on the bracket that holds the drop down guard in place.

Another view of the rear of my guides

My blade running slightly to the right but have no problrms with it.

Grayo,

Thanks for pics. Going to have another go at it later.

Do you know if every bandsaw should have the blade running down the middle of blade guard ?

Cheers

I would have thought so. It looks like yours is out of alignment perhaps it's had a knock in transit ???? Can you take a picture looking face on towards the guard and try and get the whole table and upper wheel case in picture.

Yes it should Skronk. From the pictures you've posted it looks like somehow your upper blade guide adjustable assembly has become either bent or somehow dislodged so its sitting about a cm off centre. I note the blade is sitting in the centre of the table insert so the wheels are probably about right. I suggest you have a very close poke around in the upper wheel housing, perhaps referring to an exploded parts diagram, to determine whats going on with that whole assembly. That's quite an unusual problem you have there, not seen that one before. If you get no joy, it may require a phone call to Record Power tek folks. You might need to take the top wheel off to really examine the assembly. If it were me I think I would be allocating a morning to completely dis-assemble the top half and get a good look at whats going on in there.

The good news is that's the reason your guides are all out of symmetry. You're trying to compensate for the moved assembly with the guide adjustment. Its gone too far out of true so you're beyond the end of the adjustment on the bearing thread.

Bob,

Thanks for reply. I am a wee bit loathe to start tampering with this machine as its only 1 day old. Record Power are getting back to me on Monday, supposedly. I feel the blade guard is bent inward toward the table as the blade appears to enter the top of the machine from the upper wheel dead centre of the gap in blade guard, but by the time it reaches the bottom its way off.

Maybe some kind soul with the same machine could measure from blade guard edge across to machine support frame ?

Thanks

Regards

Ok that's great but now can you get a pic with the guard almost down to the bottom.
