Hello,

£95 seems good value. I'm not sure of the amount of recesses in the sides, which are reference faces, after all.

Not bad value at all. I'll have a look on the web for further information regarding these planes.

When will clifton hurry up and do a block plane??

Faster and hence cheaper to machine, same as the later frog surfaces on Baileys.

Interesting that it's quite different (in styling) to the Wood RIver shoulder Plane.

Stock taking today but should be adding the WoodRiver 92 to the website this weekend, it's been out in the USA for a couple of years but came into us this week.

Cheers Peter

Hello,

Yes, I'm quite aware of the cost saving from the reduced amount of machining. Is it likely to affect performance, though. I have a Record 073 and Veritas medium shoulder plane. I also owned a HNT Gordon wooden shoulder plane and have used many others. All have had lots more 'flat' on the sides and work very well. It seems to me that in some instances, the hollows on this plane could affect its traverse across the face of a tenon cheek, for example. I'm sure the manufacturing is of a high standard, as the other QS planes, and the adjuster in from the V3 block plane, so no complaints there. Have they spoiled it for a h'apeth 'o tar?

Here you are Toby:

I've been using a prototype since March and haven't had any registration issues. The natural place to apply thumb pressure is directly onto the word 'Luban'. On broader surfaces, where the problem might have occurred, the horizontal rails above and below the lettering and the vertical rails before and after it give two lines of contact in both axis - exactly what you need to define a planar surface.

Anyone fancy a Passaround?

I would like to be part if the passaround if one is arranged.

Thanks Mathew.
Look an impressive tool, the adjusting mechanisin isn't how I thought it would look, the mechanisin on the veritas shoulder is great, tho if you say you haven't had a problem with this then I take your word on it.
Do these come in various sizes?

I'd be interested in the pass around that's for sure.
Thanks Mathew

I had my first chance to play with the WoodRiver 92 today. Just a few snap shots taken on the bench this morning.
I quick wipe down and dismantle honed on 15,9 and 3 micron in just a couple of minutes to get razor sharp. Moved the front toe in and trimmed a Walnut tenon. Come and have a play on the 12th.
Cheers Peter
