just an intro. i am a carpenter and have been left 3 items for woodworking items
1st a record lathe , had a go but need lots of practice, did not realise it was so scary . still ,no chisels in the body thats a start.
2nd a record band saw (blue) works well but i have to set up the guides 'all new to me .that will be fun.
3rd a record planer thicknesser spindle moulder , needs a clean up but works and is all there . unfortunately its something i will never use , so ive put it up for sale

sourcing wood for the lathe is one thing i will need advice on, so any pointers will be appreciated . i will pop in now and again for a read
best to you and thanks in advance for any advice

You will find it worthwhile to get Bandsaw Essentials. It covers setting the guides as well as all the other settings to make your bandsaw run properly. You might want to get your hands on the whole set of DVDs on offer.

Steve's bandsaw videos are head and shoulders above anything else you'll find out there. Well, so are his other videos.

my bandsaw was as good as useless until i got the workshop essentials set of dvds http://www.workshopessentials.com/ and blades from ian at http://www.tuffsaws.co.uk/.
now i thoroughly enjoy using it and can get good results using it.
best of luck

suggest you read the stickys posted by Chas (CHJ) at the start of the woodturning forum. Contained within those is a wealth of knowledge, facts, useful procedures for all things of a turning nature including stuff about safety. That's maybe something you might want to read first in fact.

Setting up the bandsaw can be tricky for the first time. However, if you google Alex Snodgrass video, it will show you how to go about it. Do not bother to take off the table, as he does. It is not that difficult to set the guides with the table in place.
