Hi I have just acquired a Tyme Cub lathe which should get me started. It is in quite good condition BUT I need to
fit a new belt (the old one was snapped). I have the new belt but could really do with some advice on how to go about fitting it. It somehow has to go over the headstock pulleys which are fixed with bearings each end. So if anyone out there can describe how to get the belt over pulleys I will be eternally grateful. Thanks :)

Don't know the assembly details of the lathe but basically you will have to do the same thing as on any lathe with captive pulleys within the headstock.
On the rear end of the headstock and possible the front as well there should be an end plate retaining one or both bearings.
May be outside or inside the main housing.
At least one of these will need releasing so that you can draw the spindle forward enough to clear the back of the headstock housing so that you can pass the belt around the spindle.

If you can provide some close-up images of the front and back bearing areas we can probably point you to the fixings that need releasing.

Hi Matt I am on Piccadilly Road not far from the town centre. I've been a woodworker for many years but have'nt done any turning since school in the '60s!! Got this Tyme Cub really cheap - thought it would be good to make a start but it's taking a bit more setting up than I expected especially fitting the belt. Any advice would be much appreciated. John

Welcome Zimmerman, as you can see they are a very helpful lot on here,
you will get great attention .You will probly find the slope on here as
slippery as in woodworking ,
Take care.

Welcome from me too Zimmerman!!

Not to worry Jonz the bloke that bought my stuff to add to his other 4 lathes  only lives a few miles from me and is a top class turner. I will be spending a few days a week in his workshop as he has a nice comfortable chair for me to watch him work when I want . :D So anything of interest I may see will be passed on.
