I bought the set of 4 Veritas scrapers about 12 months ago and coincidentally I've been using them all afternoon. Money very well spent and I can thoroughly recommend them.

Hi Trigs,
I'm also making a table top and am finding a Stanley No.80 cabinet scraper easier to use than a card scraper. I bought it off Ebay - there are several for sale there.

I've got a few veritas scrapers of varying thicknesses but I only like the medium thick one.

If you like, take a look at the veritas cabinet scraper. It's a fantastic tool and I much prefer using it for large surfaces. I also think it's a significant improvement over the Stanley scraper.

cheers guys, i think I'll try the veritas scrapers as the price is decent and try for a stanley 80 on ebay to see which i prefer

The #80 can give good results, but is a bit sensitive to edge preparation, tuning and setup.

Practice on scrap before going near an expensive workpiece.

A copy of the #80, admittedly in a horrible colour, can be had here for what is now only about £22 https://www.fine-tools.com/eschab.html (bottom of the page).
I bought one a couple of months ago. Spent 10 minutes getting the sole completely flat, put a Veritas replacement blade in it and now it works great for less than half the price of the Veritas version.
