Hi Alf,

Thanks, roughly thirty minutes to turn the box and lid, the texturing about an hour and a half. The two tone finish and lacquering stretched out over a few days due to drying and curing times but probably only a few hours work in all.

Believe it or not I enjoyed just sitting there at the lathe with the Foredom carving merrily away.

I must admit to being intrigued by the carving on this piece, any chance of a picture of the tool used to do it?

Hi Dave,

The Foredom is basically an expensive Dremel, the flexible shaft motor driven type where the motor hangs suspended from a support arm.

The cutters used are the same as most dentists use during their normal work, I would imagine the Dremel type cutters would do the job as well.
