Hello all
Posted this on fog but thought i'd post here also as this isn't a festool only forum so i may get a broader view.
Well the kapex arrived yesterday along with ug cart and wings..
Having a check over it i noticed a few things...

left fence is a little out of square, right one seems stiff and fine when locked down.
The middle of the table (part that turns) sits about 1mm higher than the left and right.. does this at -45 / 90 and 45.
The left ug wing sits flush at the front and drops about 1.5mm down at the back, Must be due to V groove inaccuracy on the table? I haven't bothered with the right extension wing.
Do the slide bar bearings loosen a little bit with use as they seem a little stiff to get started which causes a small jump into a sliding cut.
anyone else have issues like this and how can they be resolved?

On a positive note the laser was set perfect and the cut is nice lol

Little disappointed as i was so excited and not to mention the cost! really don't want to go through he hassle of returning/replacement only o get another with same issues... especially if i can just tweak it myself.

Many Thanks

Is it new?

Used Kapex's, especially 110v site operated ones, often have twisted fences because they've suffered repeated kick backs in operation. They often get used on twisted boards, with clamps on both sides, or with a clamp on one side and a stop on the other, or for cutting housings with too short or warped auxiliary fences, in those circumstances it's just a matter of time before you get quite a nasty kick back.

If you're new to the machine dig around the web for some safety advice, they're not quite as risk free as many people imagine. But used sensibly the Kapex is a cracking machine

Good luck

If I'm not 100% happy I've always returned Festool kit for a replacement. You've lived without a Kapex this long, you'll last a few days longer!

See if you can get a Festool demo guy to pay you a visit and check it over. Pretty much everything is adjustable I set mine up when i got it so that it was all spot on including the lasers.

If not just get axminster to do a swap but the next one could be the same

From memory Festool have had problems with the castings on the bases of the Kapex. Considering the premium you pay for a Festool product anything other than perfection is not acceptable. I've got a bosch 12" chopsaw for site which I chose over the Kapex for the increased capacity, no problems with accuracy and it was around £600 cheaper.

i hear there was a few issue with castings
i have a kapex and love it
not without it's fault
just the one in my case
respect it or it will bite...let the blade stop before raising blade
apart from that...what a fantastic bit of kit

They have never had problems with casting don't know where you heard that rubbish from.

What you might be thinking of are the posts from several people moaning about how rough the underside casting is on the kapex. This has no affect whatsoever on the cutting accuracy of kapex and is purely a cosmetic thing.
